Danay Scott

LCMHC

Danay Scott (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor who earned a master’s of education in clinical mental health counseling from North Carolina State University. She has served in the mental health industry for over 3 years working with adults and teens in residential, inpatient, and community counseling settings.

Growing up, Danay was often in spaces where she did not feel seen or heard as a Black woman, which played a crucial role in how she viewed herself. As she grew older, Danay realized others around her were having similar experiences. Danay entered the counseling profession to empower individuals in marginalized communities to shift the narrative. She strives to allow others to feel understood and seen as they navigate through life experiences and challenges.

Oppressive experiences can lead us to believe things about ourselves that are not true. Danay collaborates with clients to disseminate negative environmental messaging and reclaim their true selves. She utilizes the empowerment aspects of feminism to help clients learn how to externalize societal impacts on self-esteem and sense of self. Danay uses an eclectic approach that incorporates acceptance and commitment therapy, components of person-centered therapy, and cognitive behavior therapy. These integrative approaches provide opportunities for clients to explore their authentic selves, step into the people they imagine themselves as, and create more loving spaces in their lives.

Danay works with adolescents, adults of all ages, and couples with various presenting concerns. She has a special passion in women’s issues, trauma, anxiety, depression, and identity exploration especially with historically marginalized and minoritized groups.
