Katherine McKoy (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate, a millennial mom, lightworker, and lifelong learner. She obtained a bachelor’s in psychology and master’s of social work from NC Central University. Katherine has provided counseling services for over four years in non-profit and private practice settings. She has worked with a wide age range of clients - from adolescents to older individuals - and provided a broad array of services, including career and academic counseling, mental health counseling, and facilitating processing groups.
Katherine's enthusiasm for mental health awareness and wellness stems from her own personal experiences. Throughout life, Katherine navigated self-esteem issues, and has worked to understand and embrace her identities. She did not have a space like therapy to process her emotions, which left her alone in her personal development and identity exploration. Katherine entered the mental health field with a strong belief that marginalized individuals and communities deserve a genuine and secure environment to find solace, empowerment, connection, and healing.
Katherine takes a decolonized, liberating, and trauma-focused therapeutic approach focused on healing emotional wounds. As a person-centered therapist, she incorporates evidence-based techniques and modalities to meet the specific needs of each individual. Having experienced the healing power of art and her own spiritual journey, Katherine also invites holistic, somatic, expressive, and Afro-spirituality elements into her therapy. She aims to destigmatize mental health support in the Black community. Ultimately, Katherine assists clients in their healing journey by inviting them to explore their mental health experiences as a path to rediscover and redefine themselves.
Katherine works with adults to address a range of concerns such as parental stress, workplace stress and trauma, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, spirituality, life transitions, grief, and stress management. Katherine is especially passionate about supporting individuals who are suffering from complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD), as well as individuals who are seeking to break generational cycles and heal. Katherine is LGBTQIA+-affirming, and kink, polyam, and sex worker allied.
