Regina Gavin Williams (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, a National Certified Counselor, a Licensed School Counselor (Georgia), and a counselor educator. With over 10 years of counseling and administration experience in education and community settings, Regina received her PhD in counseling and counselor education from North Carolina State University in 2016. Her experience as a clinician informed her research focus and advocacy of adolescents in foster care.
Regina describes herself as a community builder, helping individuals create meaningful connections in spaces where they can thrive and grow. Her desire to create a brave space for people to feel empowered to bring their full selves to the table attracted her to the work of a counselor. Regina grew up in a military family where she interacted with people from various backgrounds. This experience expanded her desire to want to live and engage in communities where all voices can be heard and valued. This same desire is something she tries to instill in her two young children. As a mother, Regina believes in the power of collectivism, knowing that it truly takes a village to raise a child. Her identities as a Black woman, mother, wife, daughter, aunt, friend and scholar inform her work as counselor rooted in social justice advocacy.
Using an integrative approach to counseling, Regina primarily utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy, reality therapy, and solution-focused therapy, with a person-centered, strengths-based approach to help clients work through their challenges. Regina focuses on helping individuals create a workable plan that is specific to their needs, thereby establishing a collaborative relationship in both developing and achieving set goals. She also provides the space for clients to gain insight in a safe and supportive environment. One of her main priorities is to help clients make the positive changes needed to live a more fulfilling life. She also utilizes psychoeducation as a tool to empower and offer further insight to client concerns.
Regina works with adults who may be experiencing a wide range of mental health, personal, and career-related concerns, helping them to achieve emotional wellness and balance. She has a special interest in concerns related to anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and historically marginalized identities. Regina would be a good match for anyone who is experiencing a life transition such as those related to career/work, parenting/caregiving, emerging adulthood, or interpersonal relationships.
