Elizabeth Robinette (she/her) is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and proud graduate of NC State University (Go Pack!!), where she earned a bachelor’s in psychology and a master’s in counseling. Elizabeth joined Nour Counseling after serving at the NCSU Student Counseling Center for 15 years as a counselor with an emphasis on supporting neurodivergent students.
As someone diagnosed with learning disabilities and ADHD at an early age, Elizabeth spent many hours with occupational therapists. While therapy was challenging and sometimes exhausting, those sessions were rare moments when she felt seen and heard as the competent, hardworking little girl she was – especially when teachers and other authority figures viewed her potential as limited. When Elizabeth was 11, she and her twin sister joined a grief counseling group after their brother was killed in a tragic accident. She believes that starting therapy in the immediate wake of tragedy was invaluable to her grieving and healing process. Over the course of time Elizabeth learned that her neurodivergence is not something to be conquered or worthy of shame. It is something to be celebrated. These lived experiences fuel and inform Elizabeth’s skill, empathy, and passion as a clinician.
Elizabeth is an ardent advocate for neurodiversity and views ADHD as a brain style. Her focus, through coaching and counseling, is to transform the “disorder” into an asset. She and her clients partner to develop skills that compensate for the difficult parts of the diagnosis, while celebrating the amazing qualities of the neurodivergent brain. She offers empirically supported coaching and a solution-focused approach to the comprehensive treatment of ADHD and other diagnoses with executive dysfunction. Elizabeth is also trained in providing trauma-focused interventions for survivors of childhood, relational, racial, educational and other forms of systemic abuse and discrimination. She is also a certified provider of trauma-informed CBT, DBT, and grief counseling.
As partners, Elizabeth supports individuals and partners with a variety of concerns including mood, adjustment, relationship, trauma, and family-of-origin issues. She is also passionate about helping neurodivergent-identifying folx navigate a world designed by and for a neurotypical brain. Elizabeth specializes in assessment and treatment of ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and learning disorders. Additionally, Elizabeth leads support-based groups to support executive function, ADHD, social-skills training, and ASD.
Elizabeth is a proud and happy single mom to son Miles, and their Yorkie, Willis. When not working with her awesome clients, she enjoys spending time around plants and animals, engaging in social justice and advocacy work, and going on adventures with her family.
