Maria Hailey

Maria Hailey (she/her) earned a bachelor’s in economics from North Carolina State University and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Walden University. As a recruiter and instructor in the community college system, Maria enjoyed providing assistance to established and potential students as they worked towards improving their lives. She decided to shift her career towards clinical therapy as a way to support people in a more interpersonal setting.

As someone with a layered identity, Maria understands how the intersections and overlap of certain aspects of oneself can affect another, often compounding societal challenges.  As a mother of an Autistic child, Maria is a caregiver and advocate. A native of rural NC, she’s no stranger to small town culture or the challenges of accessing care and support. Being newly out-of-the-closet bisexual, she not only provides a powerful example that identity exploration and self-discovery have no age limit, and is also aware of the many phobias and outright discrimination that can delay or derail those explorations.

Maria is passionate about helping clients connect with their authentic selves, supporting them as they learn to feel joy and fulfillment in their lives and seek to enrich their relationships. She approaches therapy with a focus on psychodynamics, acknowledging that our past is an integral part of how we see and interact with the people around us. She also incorporates Adlerian therapy, knowing that social support and worldview are key to personal happiness and fulfillment. Taking an eclectic approach, Maria also utilizes interventions from other modalities such as DBT, MCT, CBT, and ACT, to meet the individual needs of each client.

Maria works with adults and adolescents on a variety of concerns such as depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, ADHD, and autism. She is especially passionate about being a culturally affirming therapist for neurodivergent, LGBTQIA2+, caregiver, polyamory and kink communities.
