Tommy Hibbs

LCMHC

Tommy Hibbs (he/him) is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor who earned a master’s in clinical mental health counseling from North Carolina State University. He served as a high school English teacher for 5 years in rural eastern North Carolina. Tommy has also provided executive functioning coaching for the past year to adolescents and young adults with autism spectrum disorders and ADHD diagnoses.

Tommy is deeply passionate about empowering clients to explore, investigate, and develop a deeper understanding of their identities and relationships with themselves and others. During childhood, Tommy often hid aspects of his authentic self from friends and family for fear that his sexual identity would not be accepted. These formative experiences created a desire to help others blossom into their true selves, which eventually led to a passion for teaching students in rural communities.

As a gay man, Tommy has a special love for working with individuals who have experienced oppression, discrimination, microaggressions, and other forms of feeling undervalued. His clinical approach helps clients to find their own voices and identify support systems who value the client’s thoughts, feelings, outlook, and general worldview. Tommy believes that developing a supportive community can empower clients to be at peace with who they are and who they are becoming.

Tommy works with adults of all ages, and enjoys supporting individuals who identify as LGBTQIA2S+, BIPOC, neurodiverse, ability diverse, and of course teachers. He supports various presenting concerns, including anxiety, life transitions, ADHD, relationship conflict and communication, and career counseling.
